That up there is my progress bar. Its set at 70,000 words because I think thats what I’ll need to generate as a first draft for ‘Tec if its going to be in any state to progress.
Last year I became a little obsessed with Word Count at the NaNoWriMo site, writing about 100-200 words and then updating to see if I was closer to the daily target. Of course, at the beginning they had a graph which showed progress and, a little perversely, how far behind I was which drove me a little insane. Luckily they removed it because no matter how far ahead I was, there was still that virtual black mark which seemed to lift its skirt to attract my attention every time I visited.
This year, its all a bit more civilised, but I’m still as obsessed by Word Count. So much so that I have spent some time over the weekend (even my day off) looking for a good word count plug or link. The one I picked is a link to a website at http://picometer.writertopia.com where you simply put in your total words and the progress and you get it in a nice little image.
