NaNoWriMo 2011: Day 5 – A Death in the Family

A bit behind due to technical difficulties so there will be a few posts today to catch up.

I killed one of the characters yesterday. It was a major one at that, and was necessary to advance the plot. At the beginning it was to wake the reader up; to lull them into a false sense of security and then hit them square in the proverbial so that they suddenly don’t take anything for granted. However, as time moved on with the plotting over the years, it became more than that. It was a wake up call for the other two characters; the shit just got real.

It took a while to actually write the chapter where they die, but I had been planning this from the beginning.

In fact, I had the structure in my head for years and knew exactly how it would run. All I did on Friday was actually write it out, and at that stage spent quite a considerable amount of time fleshing it out and adding the build up.

Now, onto the fallout…
