So, yesterday I finally put the novel info into the NaNoWriMo site. The idea was to get cracking on a WIP that I really want to get a move on and all was good with the world.
After sleeping on it, I changed my mind and here’s why.
‘Tec is a project that I’ve been wanting to tackle for many years and I’ve had varied success. Of late, its fallen back down the pile after I decided to take a big red pen through it and let it lie so that I could concentrate on other projects. Still, I do want to tell that story but am not sure when I will ever get to it.
So, the solution is to concentrate on ‘Tec for November and batter out the first draft, using the discipline of NaNo to get that particular monkey off my back. It may be that I never go beyond a first draft, but the story that needs to be told will be and the characters can have their say.
In saying that, I am starting from scratch. The page is blank (and just behind this browser, in case you’re wondering) and all I have are the notes I have created and edited through the years, which contains plot outline, characters and some chapter breakdowns. All of the old words I wrote are put to one side because the only way I can really do this is to stick to the rules and write this sucker afresh. Dropping old scenes and dialogue won’t do it any justice, if all I’m trying to do is write the words.
Anyway, thats quite enough of the background.
It has begun.
